Going out for tapas is not as common in Barcelona as in Madrid or other Spanish cities but you can still find restaurants that strive to offer elaborate, quality tapas. Santa Maria is a classic you should really try. They offer tapas with creative touches from international cuisine, like banana chips and sardines with aubergine and curry. In its time La Confiteria was an essential meeting point for theatregoers; a bohemian crowd still meets there to talk about the shows and plays over a cheese board or selection of cured meats. The new Resolís (Riera Baixa, 22), which has not been around as long as the others, has also opted for "creative tapas" with a menu that changes frequently and on which you can find anything from vegetable pasties to cheese in soy sauce.
