Barcelona's most visible face dips into the Mediterranean, its back is covered in green and it breathes through lungs of Tibidabo, from where you can contemplate the Catalan capital from a distance.
Tibidabo, in Collserola Park, marks the limit of Barcelona: a city between the mountain and the sea.
The Tibidabo Amusement Park is an ideal place for children and adults to spend hours enjoying themselves on the rides, often with new installations, as well as enjoying the views over the city of Barcelona. Children love it!
Entry only to the Tibidabo Camí del Cel gardens is free, without any rides or attractions.
If you decide to go to the amusement park, there is the puppet theatre and the Museum of the Automatons, with its collection principally from the early 20th century. More information is available on the Amusement Park website.
Tibidabo viewpoints :
From the basilica of the Sacred Heart, at the top of Tibidabo, or from the amusement park, there are spectacular views over Barcelona, with the Mediterranean as the backdrop.
Collserola Tower. It is also enjoyable to go up to the viewpoint on the Collserola Communications Tower, which, from the same crest of the mountain, lets you see the city from the highest observation point. You can get there from the city centre on the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya local train (S1 o S2), to Peu del Funicular, or Funicular de Vallvidrera and the 111 bus. If you want information on prices and times, go to the Collserola Tower website.
Sport on Tibidabo and Collserola Park :
Tibidabo is on the Collserola massif, an area with plenty of walks through the woods, where, for a while, you can leave behind the city asphalt, have a change of air, and relax. You can find all the possibilities on the Collserola Park website. .
On foot
Collserola, passing the Budellera and Canet fountains. A little more than two hours, this walk begins and ends at the Baixador de Vallvidrera station of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya railway. Start from the station and cross the BV-1462 from Sant Cugat to Barcelona, walking towards Santa Maria de Vallvidrera, a 10th century parish church. On a path over the stream, you will reach the sharp curve known as El Revolt de Les Monges. On the right there is a path which climbs steeply to a wide road from Vallvidrera.
If you follow the signs, you will soon reach the Budellera fountain, designed by Jean Claude Nicolas Forestier in 1918, restored in 1988. Behind the fountain there is another path which leads to the gully, with a good view of the Sacred Heart church on Tibidabo and the Collserola Communications Tower. After crossing the stream, go down the other side. Keep a look out for the signs for the path to Canet fountain. Once you have passed it the path goes up to a small peak, where there is a forked junction. The right goes to Cerdanyola del Vallès and the left takes you back to the station, passing the Vil·la Joana farmhouse, which is the Casa Verdaguer Museum.
Mountain biking
Much of Tibidabo and Collserola Park have cycle paths, such as the Passeig de les Aigües, which crosses Collserola, halfway up the mountain, and has very good views over the city. You can go up and down from the Tramvia Blau stop, along Carretera de les Aigües. You can also cycle uphill to Vallvidrera on the old road between Barcelona and Vallvidrera, cycle on past the Budellera fountain to Les Planes and on to Tibidabo, and then return going down past the Collserola Tower. If you are interested and want more information, you will find all the cycle routes in the Collserola Park website.
