Discover the keys of the coevolution of the Earth and life and gather with the diversity of nature
While many modern science museums have to start from zero and build up their collections, the Natural History Museum of Barcelona has a rich heritage of collections that has been assembled over a period of 134 years. Today, these collections include more than 3 million specimens of great scientific and historical value. The benchmarkexhibition, "Planet Life", commences at its very core, 'The Earth Today'. This section displays the Museum's heritage collection and takes up most of the exhibition area.
Two other sections are now opened, "Biography of Earth" and "The Islands of Science".
"Biography of Earth" takes visitors on a journey through the evolution of our planet and the history of life. "The Islands of Science" are small exhibitions set up in determined areas within the main exhibition space. They are changed periodically. They cover a variety of topics such as evolution, nomenclature and classification, the Mediterranean, animal behaviour, reproduction, conservation, ecology, natural resources, and genetics.
